TEACHER'S
DOMAIN WEBSITE
Teacher' Domain is an online collection of classroom-ready
multimedia resources from public television programs like NOVA,
ZOOM, Building Big, and A Science Odyssey. Video and audio clips,
interactive activities, photographs, diagrams, illustrations, and
images of documents bring science to life in exciting interactive
ways. Whether used in teacher presentations or assigned to students
for self-study, these resources supplement static textbook lessons
with compelling images and data. All resources are correlated to
California and national standards, which can be consulted as needed.
A menu of commonly taught topics and a searchable database make
locating resources easy. Teacher's Domain is available at no charge,
through the generosity of its funders and WGBH. The website is www.teachersdomain.org. |

SERVICE
LEARNING AND THE CONTENT STANDARDS (POSTED 05/09/05)
Service-learning is a powerful teaching strategy that uses community
service to teach academic content. A key component of designating
high-quality service-learning activities is making sure that the
service experience is closely linked to specific academic content
standards. Some of you have requested the following URL: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/sl/standards.asp |

TEACHERS
NEEDED! (POSTED 05/09/05)
I have been asked to recruit or recommend teachers to the California
Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) Assessment Review Panel
(ARP), which was formally called the Content Review Panel (CRP).
Educational Testing Service (ETS) is also looking for teachers to
write CAPA science tasks. I am hoping you and members of CISC can
recommend special education teachers who meet the following criteria
and might be interested :
1. Have a special education degree or credential
2. Teach science to special education students and are knowledgeable
of the science content standards
3. Have taught 3-5 years
The CAPA ARP meets 2-4 times a year in Sacramento. All associated
costs are paid for though there is no stipend. Background regarding
the CAPA:
The CAPA is the alternate assessment given to students with significant
cognitive disabilities who cannot take the California Standards
Tests (CSTs), even with accommodations or modifications. NCLB requires
that every state provide an alternate assessment. The CAPA science
assessment consists of 8 performance tasks aligned to grades K-2
science content standards. It is administered at Level 1 for students
whose cognitive understanding is 0-24 months (regardless of age
or grade), Level 3 for students who are of elementary school age,
Level 4 for students who are of middle school age, and Level 5 for
students who are of high school age.
Thank you in advance for any consideration or assistance you/CISC
can provide. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions
or would like to recommend a teacher.
